The tourism potential is fundamentally related to the physical-geographical nature of the region, characterized by its geology and geomorphology, with excellent pristine and desert beaches suitable for sun-and-sea tourism, sports tourism (fishing, aquatic and underwater activities, among others), and fluvial-lacustrine tourism (boat/raft trips) on the Balombo River and on the Tapado River Lake (Tapado River beach).

Egito Praia — Egito Praia, where the Balombo River flows into the sea, is a place of mystical landscape that evokes Egypt. The cliffs and escarpments surrounding the beach, which give it its true beauty, resemble the Egyptian landscape.
Fort of São Sebastião do Egito — A centuries-old monument of military architecture located in Egito Praia.
The “Fort of São Sebastião do Egito”, also referred to as “Egito Fort”, is located on top of a hill in the locality of Egito Praia, in the municipality of Lobito, Benguela Province, Angola.
The toponymy “Egito” given to this beach on the left (southern) bank of the Balombo River mouth is related to the similarity of the palm groves — “sliding toward the sea” — which Portuguese settlers associated with that country.
Balombo River Mouth — The mouth of the Balombo River, at Egito Praia, is one of the most expressive coastal landscapes of Benguela.
Between cliffs, palm groves, and the riverbanks, the Balombo ends its journey forming an estuary that concentrates biodiversity, local memories, and enormous potential for nature and cultural tourism. For those seeking authentic places, it is an invitation to walk slowly, observe, and learn.
Egito Praia Cemetery — Place where the first Soba of the region was buried; The Egito Praia Cemetery is one of the most unique places of memory on the northern coast of Benguela. Set in a landscape of cliffs, palm groves, and Atlantic breezes, near the mouth of the Balombo River, this small cemetery is part of the historical-cultural circuit of Egito Praia, in dialogue with the Fort of São Sebastião do Egito and other local landmarks.
Slave Market — The Slave Market, in Egito Praia, is part of the former complex dedicated to the Atlantic slave trade on the central coast of Angola, functioning as a place of sale/negotiation adjacent to the Slave Yard (holding courtyard).
Today, the remaining structures are in ruins, but they preserve great historical and symbolic value as a place of memory.
Egito Praia is located northwest of Lobito, in a landscape of cliffs and palm groves near the mouth of the Balombo River (Navala Beach).
Slave Yard — The Slave Yard, in Egito Praia, is one of the most striking places of memory on the central coast of Angola. Here operated a courtyard for the concentration and sorting of captives before sale and embarkation, forming part of the local Slave Route.
Next to it, the “Slave Market” fulfilled the commercial function of the trade. Today, the complex is in ruins but retains strong historical and symbolic value.
