National Day of Angolan Culture

The National Day of Angolan Culture is celebrated on January 8, and in 2025, the event in the province of Benguela took place at the National Museum of Archeology in the municipality of Benguela.

The date was established in 1986, in honor of the speech given by the first president of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, in 1979. On that occasion, the poet addressed National Culture, which became a fundamental reference in discussions on the topic. Angolan culture is mostly native Bantu, mixed with Portuguese culture. The country is made up of diverse ethnic communities, such as the Ovimbundu, Ambundu, Bakongo, Chokwe, Avambo and others, each with their own traditions, languages and dialects.
