Mangroves are essential for Angola and the world, for a variety of reasons:
They protect the coast from marine erosion;
They serve as 'nursery' for fish;

They prevent salinization of the coast;

But above all they are barriers against oceanic forces.
The effects of tides and extreme situations such as tsunamis are greatly mitigated.
However, despite these benefits, in Angola, Mangas were and have been destroyed by natural and human action, for the execution of works and waste drainage, and other purposes.
The consequence is that in areas, previously rich in fish, with access to drinking water and very stable to climate change, everything has changed. The fish disappeared and with it the fishermen.
Drinking water wells became saline water wells and agriculture ended. Erosion is already being felt and the increase in the average level of ocean waters is already being felt.
From small villages to large cities, previously protected by mangroves, all are at risk…It is with this in mind that the #OTCHIVA project comes into being.
With the aim of requalifying the Mangroves on the coast, coast and inland areas of Angola.
The project has several volunteers and more help is always welcome.
They are activities were carried out on Saturdays and on November 9th, we joined the route of requalifying Mangroves at a global level, with the record of a huge daily plantation (one of the largest recorded to date), over 30,000 mangroves.
We intend to do much more and much better. You can also help
And to that end, you are invited to join in yet another Mangais Requalification activity. A completely devastated area of 25 hectares will be attacked, the impacts of which are felt in Samba and the elevated Calemas
