Moçamedes - The rhythmic diversity and richness of traditional music and dance from the southern region of Angola was in evidence, on Saturday night, during the III traditional music and dance concert, promoted by the Ministry of Culture .
Seven groups, with emphasis on Os Elalakanodo, from the municipality of Namacunde, province of Cunene, made up only of girls aged between 10 and 13 years old, performed on stage, during a hour, the value of the country's cultural roots, in a symbiosis with the sound and rhythm of the ngoma “batuque”.
Despite their age, the group members gave, during their performance, a true traditional dance class, showing the public, without complex, the power of local traditional music and dance, with steps and touches that led some present to try to follow the compass.
With a considerable audience at Largo 1 de Maio, the venue that hosted the event, the groups, who each had a 20-minute performance, explained the reasons for their presence in Moçamedes.
With a mixture between adults and young people, the passing of testimony aimed at preserving the essence of Angolan culture was evident.
The Angolan Traditional Music and Dance Concert is a partnership with Imogestin and aims to promote and disseminate traditional music and dance, in ways that value this rich and diverse Angolan intangible heritage, as well as aiming to rescue and preserve aspects cultural and national identity.
