Catumbela – The director of the Culture and Tourism Office, Rosália Tchitale, confirms that Benguela's tourist itineraries cover the natural beauty of the interior of the province, to promote local potential.
An alternative to sun and sea tourism in coastal cities, with beaches with crystal clear waters, the municipalities in the interior of Benguela also offer tourist attractions, such as old buildings, farms, mountains and rivers, capable of boosting internal tourism.
Among the most popular tourist attractions in the interior are the Búfalo natural reserve, in Caimbambo, the Lomaum dam and the Lungo mountain, in Cubal, for religious tourism, and the hot springs of the Cota-Cota in Balombo.
According to the director of the Provincial Office of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports, the interior of Benguela is not forgotten, as it has attractions that are part of the tourist route.
Rosália Tchitale said that as the province receives tourists, the tourism sector will work on itineraries to direct visitors to tourist sites.
“Nowadays, when we receive tourists, we direct them to the itineraries according to what they request, without forgetting the municipalities in the interior”, she asserts .
The official highlights that, in addition to the beaches, the province of Benguela attracts many tourists due to its historical monuments and natural landscapes, which, if used, can become a source of revenue.
However, the director argues that it is necessary to work on publicizing existing or upcoming itineraries, with the aim of making the province a destination par excellence for national and foreign tourists.
Catumbela Tour
On the coast of Benguela, one of the most popular tourist routes is the Catumbela river dam, launched in July 2021, under the name “Tour Catumbela”,
This is a pedestrian tourist route that starts from the old Luís Filipe metal bridge, which is more than 100 years old, to the Catumbela river floodgates, a distance of five kilometers, with centuries-old trees in view.
Among the main monuments of the old town of Catumbela are an old factory, the Garanganja building, the Chiquito chalet, Capracinha, the first colonial prison, the old ceramics building and the São Pedro stronghold, in an advanced state of degradation.
