The 31st edition of the African senior men's basketball championship (Afrobasket) takes place in August this year and is part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Angola's independence, to be celebrated on November 11th this year.

Cátia Cachuco said that National Sports Day is an opportunity to reflect on sport and stimulate continuous impulses and collective engagement that can result in the consecration and absorption of the social and economic concepts of sport.
"Sport, in addition to being a strong mechanism of social cohesion and inclusion, is above all a constitutional right and an extraordinary instrument for promoting peace, culture (...)", she said.
The official highlighted the importance of sport in building active societies, with healthier people physically and mentally, thus contributing to the economic and human development of societies.
Agents defend massification of sport and support from the State
The president of the Provincial Handball Association of Benguela, Esmeraldo Chipeio, defended the massification of sports practice in schools. In his view, athletes should start taking their first steps in school sports and later move on to federated sports, where they will find better technical and sporting conditions."In the massification of school sports, the State plays a crucial role, providing sports materials and adequate infrastructure for this purpose", he stated.
The president of the Clube Nacional de Benguela, Ivanir Coelho, lamented the lack of unity among those involved in the sport in Benguela, defending the need to sit down to define what they truly want from the sport."Today, anyone who plays sport is a true hero. He added that it is necessary to be very resilient and competent to finish a championship in the various sports. In turn, the president of the Casa do Pessoal do Porto do Lobito, António Cassoma, called for greater organization of clubs, considering that with the minimum amount he can -do a lot. He said that the club he heads has been doing a lot for sport and so that each sport it sports reaches high levels, it is creating conditions that allow it to be self-sustainable."As you know, clubs have to find other forms of economic sustainability and become independent", he recalled.
