World Theater Day has been celebrated since 1961, at the initiative of the International Theater Institute (ITI).
On this day, it is intended to highlight the importance of theater in the history and culture of humanity, through various events and initiatives organized around the world.

Various national and international theatrical events are organized to mark this occasion.
One of the most important celebrations of this day is the circulation of the international message of World Theater Day, through which, at the invitation of Iti, a worldwide recognition figure shares its reflections on the theme of theater and the culture of peace.

The first international message of World Theater Day was written by Jean Cocteau (France) in 1962.
He was first in Helsinki, and then in Vienna at the 9th World Iti Congress in June 1961 that President Arvi Kivimaa proposed, on behalf of the Finnish Center of the International Theater Institute, which was instituted a World Theater Day. The proposal, supported by the Scandinavian centers, was taken with acclamation.Theater, as we know, is an art in which people (actors or actresses) represent a certain story for an audience.
Among the types of art, theater is known as fifth art, and can be staged through a script, created by writers and playwrights, but can also happen by the improvisation of the actors.

Theater emerged in ancient Greece, and since classical antiquity has become one of the most common and popular artistic languages in Western societies.
Currently there is a wide variety of theatrical genres, which demonstrates the richness of this artistic language.

The objectives of this date, as stipulated by the International Theater Institute, are as follows:

Promote theater around the world;
Disseminate the importance of theater;
Encourage theatrical communities to promote their work and make rulers aware of the importance of this art;
Encourage people to enjoy theater in their own benefit;
Spread joy through the theater.
