Lobito - Environmentalist Madaleno Constantino considered, this Monday, that there was progress in the city of Lobito (Benguela), after almost a decade of standstill.

In statements to ANGOP, regarding Lobito's 111th anniversary, which is celebrated today, the environmentalist stated that for ten years now, the city had stagnated.
"Fortunately, some major works have been taking place, mainly in terms of the renovation and growth of the city's road network", he acknowledged.
"The emergency works have been giving some shine to the city, not only in terms of roads, but also some public structures, such as the Flamingo cinema and the Tchapanguele market, works that give some dignity", he considered.
From an economic point of view, Madaleno Constantino stated that the city has shown some signs, referring to the Africa Global Logistics (AGL) consortium, which has brought new dynamics to the port movement.
He also spoke about the resumption of works at the Refinery, also known as SONAREF, which had been suspended for more than two years
. According to Madaleno Constantino, with the resumption of works by the Brazilian company Odebrecht Engenharia e Construções, many young people had the opportunity to get jobs.
Sonamet, responsible for the construction of metal infrastructures for the oil sector, is another company that is somehow stimulating the economy of this municipality.
He also highlighted the Lobito Atlantic Railway consortium, responsible for operating the Lobito Corridor which, in his view, will make a great contribution to the country's economy, taking into account the investments being made by the United States of America, the European Union and the United Kingdom.
In turn, professor Florinda Ricardo is of the opinion that the emergency works will bring a great benefit to the population, taking into account the facilitation of urban mobility and the development of tourism.
He pointed to the upper part of the city as a place for future investments in infrastructure and services, because the city will grow in that direction.
"The lower area is very congested, but many people prefer to stay there, due to the lack of infrastructure and services in the upper area", she explained. She gave an example of public servants and others, who purchased houses in Centralidade, but due to the lack of basic services, such as pharmacies, bakeries, banks and others, they preferred to rent their homes as it was more economical. She considered the new administrator as a public servant who brings together all social classes and hopes that, with this character, he will be able, with the help of the community, to boost the railway-port city of Lobito. Citizen Manuela Sampaio expressed concern about illegal sales on the sidewalks and roundabout of the Tchapanguele market and also in Katuma, in the upper zone.
"It's an imminent danger," she exclaimed, adding that dangerous situations occur every day. "The Government must use a heavy hand to avoid accidents with deaths," she said. On the other hand, Domingos Brito, cultural agent, argues that it is necessary to work hard for the sector to reach satisfactory levels.
"We have to defend the mystique of the Lobito Carnival, which was already known worldwide", he stated
. For Francisco Luís, the National Police must discipline motorcycle taxi drivers, known as "kupapatas", who perform dangerous maneuvers on the roads, drive in the opposite direction, without horns and lighting. TC/CRB
