The theme for International Museum Day in 2026 is:

"Museums Bridging a Divided World"

The theme was announced by the International Council of Museums and highlights the role of museums as spaces for:
dialogue, inclusion, peace, unity among cultures and communities, and the preservation of collective memory.

This year's proposal seeks to show that, in a world marked by conflicts, inequalities, and polarization, museums can help bring together people, generations, and different societies.
The educational mission of a museum, regardless of its nature, is just as important as its scientific mission.
Museums are also places where the relationship between culture and nature is demonstrated, and there is a growing number of museums focusing their interests on science, nature, and technology.
In Angola, the National Museum of Natural History (created on September 8, 1943) is a public institution of a scientific nature.

Its fundamental objective is the research, classification, conservation, and inventory of Angolan biodiversity.
It presents permanent and temporary exhibitions on various aspects related to environmental conservation and biodiversity management.

International Museum Day reminds us that preserving memory is essential to understanding the past, valuing the present, and building the future.
