Angola will charge 5% on overnight stays for international tourists from August

Angola will begin charging a 5% tax on the value of overnight stays for international tourists, under a Special Contribution for Tourism, according to a presidential decree published in the Official Gazette.

Presidential Legislative Decree No. 4/26, of April 30, establishes that the contribution applies to the daily rates or overnight stays of international tourists in tourist developments and local accommodation establishments, and is charged at the time of 'check-in' or 'check-out'.
Domestic tourists and international tourists under 12 years of age are exempt from payment.
The collection is carried out by the accommodation establishments themselves, which must remit the amount collected to the competent public entity by the last working day of the month following the collection.
The revenues generated by the new contribution will be distributed as follows: 50% to the Tourism Promotion Institute, 30% to the National Treasury, and 20% to the Local State Administration Bodies.
The decree comes into force 90 days after its publication.
