Lobito - The coastline of the municipality of Lobito, north of the province of Benguela, should soon have a new avenue, five kilometers long and seven meters wide, recently announced the deputy municipal administrator, John Dalton de Carvalho.
Speaking to Angop, the official said that the municipal administration of Lobito is working on the project for this avenue, which will start from the district of Compão to the tip of Restinga, on the city's waterfront. Without revealing the project's investments, the administrator Municipal Assistant for the Lobito Technical Area stresses that the construction of this avenue will facilitate pedestrians' access to the sea, limited in some areas by various types of constructions, such as restaurants, bars including residential and commercial buildings. Basement maintenance works will also be facilitated, which play a key role in controlling the advance of the sands into the beach. Questioned about the dispute over control of the coastal zone, between the Administration and the Captaincy of Porto do Porto Lobito, John Dalton appealed to the recent order of the Provincial Government of Benguela, based on Presidential Decree 202/19, under which it is of the comp government's authority to practice constitutive acts of land law in the terrestrial protection strip with a maximum width of 500 meters. In this way, all natural or collective agents wishing to build in the referenced spaces must apply to the Provincial Government of Benguela in the form of a request, giving input to the deconcentrated bodies of the local administration. Regarding the growth of constructions along the seafront, he added that the municipal administration of Lobito has cataloged all the infrastructures, although it needs to update them. “Some owners of these properties are legal , pay their taxes, but there are also those who are outside the law, on whom measures will be taken to restore legality ”, he stressed. However, he regretted the small number of inspectors currently numbered at around 10, for several reasons, which fail to meet all the needs of the city at the same time.The municipality of Lobito, bathed to the west across the Atlantic Ocean, it covers 2,700 square kilometers and represents about seven percent of the territory of the province of Benguela.
