Lobito - About sixty tons of agricultural products, especially beans, corn, ginguba and sweet potatoes, deteriorate annually in the village of Monte Arroio, high zone of the commune of Canjala, municipality of Lobito, Benguela province, by lack of outlets, ANGOP learned.

According to the chief of the settlement of Monte Arroio, Ernesto Lukembi, the accentuated degradation of the 14 kilometers of the access road to that mountainous town of Canjala is preventing the circulation of vehicles that would help in the flow of local production. In light of that, he said that the people had managed to rehabilitate part of the section and some cars were still going up, but with the rains of the last few years, the situation has worsened and today no vehicle passes. It is in this context that the Monte Arroio chief asks for help from the municipality and Lobito authorities for the rehabilitation of the road, so that traders can have access to agricultural products in the upper zone of Canjala. Likewise, he admitted that, at present, the peasants are doing great losses, since the two-wheeled motorcycles that they sometimes rent as an alternative do not have the capacity to absorb all the production for the communal headquarters of Canjala. “We are unable to profit from what we produce”, laments the traditional authority, believing, however, that if the authorities start to work on the earthmoving work on the road, the flow of products will be easy and the life of the peasants will change, because they will have more income . In addition to Monte Arroio, he revealed that the high areas of Wita and Kabanga also registered a significant production of beans, corn, gingumba, sweet potatoes and other crops, but which, unfortunately, have been spoiled by lack of transport, associated with the impassability of the aforementioned. road section. According to the interlocutor, even the three-wheeled motorcycles, vulgar "kaleluias", with a small bodywork attached, are unable to climb the high parts of the commune, such is the state of degradation of the road. Located 85 kilometers north of the municipality of Lobito, the commune of Canjala has more than 24 thousand inhabitants.
