The carnival group Irene Cohen won the provincial parade of the Benguela Carnival, with 1,020 points in the adult category.
In this 47th edition of the Carnival, the big winner of the parade, which represented the municipality of Cubal, took to the Praia Morena waterfront a tribute to Álvaro de Carvalho, the precursor of the first radio broadcast in Angola, held on February 28, 1933, curiously in Benguela.
With seven groups from the municipalities of Benguela, Baía Farta, Catumbela, Bocoio, Cubal, Caimbambo and Lobito, Bloco Amarelo, with 884 points, and Unidos do Lobito, with 789 points, came in second and third place in the Carnival, respectively.
In the competition for collateral prizes, the Irene Cohen group ended its participation with a "golden key" by taking home the distinctions for best commander, with 157.5 points, float (140 points) and song with 232 points.
The first place winner in the adult category received a prize of two million kwanzas, the second place winner received one million and 500 thousand kwanzas and the third place winner received one million. In the children's category, in which nine groups participated, the winner was awarded one million and 500 thousand kwanzas, the second place winner received one million and 200 thousand and the third place winner took home one million kwanzas.
In the children's category, the Mártires do Cuito group, from the municipality of Bocoio, with 771 points, won the provincial title of Carnival 2025, followed by Candengues dos Malambas, from Benguela, with 766 points, while Unidos do Lobito, with 653 points, came in third place.The Bravos da Vitória group, from Catumbela, winner of the last edition and considered the “title-winner” of Benguela's Carnival, withdrew from the parade this year, due to an alleged lack of sponsorship.
