Fabric factory in Benguela

The textile company Lassola, formerly África Têxtil, resumed operations on Wednesday with the production of towels, sheets and blankets, after a period of 16 years of interruption, wrote Angop. strong>

The factory located in the municipality of Benguela, which employs 220 workers, will manufacture 1.2 million towels, 1.6 million sheets and 120 thousand cotton blankets annually. Lassola's industrial director, Yashima Moto, said that, in this first phase, the unit will produce the yarn necessary for the spinning process from cotton imported from different countries, Asian, European and African, hoping that, in a later phase, can start using cotton produced in Angola. The company was fully recovered, a process that required an investment of 400 million dollars, expanded and modernized with modern equipment, since March 2012, creating 1,200 direct jobs, triple the number of workers laid off in 2000. The factory's production is intended for the domestic market, given that Angola still imports large quantities of textile products. The factory is using machinery of Japanese origin that allows Africa Têxtil to restart cotton spinning at around 11 thousand tons per year. The project encompasses the Textang II (Luanda) and Satec (Dondo) manufacturing units. With cotton spinning, weaving and finishing facilities, the factory contributes, in parallel with two other units still undergoing recovery and modernization - Satec in Dondo, Cuanza Norte province and Textang in Luanda - to reducing imports of textile products. The factories in Luanda and Dondo will produce fabrics for clothing, while the one in Benguela produces blankets, sheets and towels. Despite having been inaugurated in 1974, África Têxtil only started its manufacturing activity in April 1977, due to the events that marked Angola before and after Independence in 1975, it came to a standstill again in 1998 and its bankruptcy was declared in 2000. .
