City of Benguela will have Provincial Public Library

In statements to Jornal de Angola, Pascoal Luís explained that the local government is working to create a provincial library soon.
He highlighted that the emergence of the institution will represent a significant gain for access to knowledge strong>.

Pascoal Luís highlighted that the library will help preserve local history and encourage reading and book habits. When speaking at a meeting with cultural agents, he stressed that the initiative will encourage reading, provide spaces for research, in addition to promoting cultural activities that integrate the community.

Pascoal Luís guaranteed that the project will have a collection that includes physical and digital books and historical documents, as a way of enhancing the province's cultural heritage. “The creation of the library will benefit students, researchers and the general public.”
Projects of this kind, he added, make it possible to boost the cultural life of the region and preserve the collective memory of the Benguela communities. “We need to have a provincial library, capable of providing answers to the main concerns of young people.”

Other priorities

Pascoal Luís said that in addition to the provincial library, the management also outlined some priorities that include, above all, the creation of a more dynamic local cultural agenda. “What we would like to ask culture makers to do is draw up activity programs and calendars.”
With the cultural agenda, he highlighted that it is also possible to coordinate activities, fundamentally, in the Culture, Tourism and Sports sector. “With the cultural agenda, we will make hotel units available so that anyone in Benguela, for example, can have access to places where there are artistic and cultural activities with traditional dance shows, acoustic music and theater.”
The director indicated that there is, in one of the municipalities, an elderly artisan who makes clay pots and sells them along the road, worth 200 and 350 kwanzas, respectively. For the person responsible, those clay pots have a high cultural value and added that when the photographs were shared, people from other places traveled to the place to acquire the object and carry out the production process.
