Our Catumbela — Catumbela is a place known to those traveling between Lobito and Benguela, but its identity is often unknown to tourists visiting the region.
The city features a majestic bridge and an airport, making it an intermediate point between the capital and the busy port of Lobito. With its rich history and delicious cuisine, Catumbela is a true Angolan treasure.
"The name Catumbela comes from a local chief who lived there. His name was Quitumbela." He lived with his people, the Ndombe, on the left bank of the river near the swamps.
On the other side of the famous waterline known for its huge crocodiles lived farmers from Quissanje, Cahula, and Hanha.
Biópio Dam — Built in 1956, the Biópio Dam is located on the Catumbela River, Benguela province.

Catumbela River — The Catumbela River is a river in Angola.
It rises in the Cassoco mountains and flows into the Atlantic Ocean, south of the city of Lobito.
After a course of 240 km, it supplies water to the city and the port of Lobito.
Its main tributaries are the Cuíva River on the right bank and the Cubal River on the left bank.
Fort of S. Pedro — The Redoubt of São Pedro de Catumbela, also known as Fort of Catumbela, is located in the town of Catumbela, Benguela province, Angola.
The first stone for its construction was laid on October 5, 1846.
It was classified as a Public Monument by official order no. 8579 of June 17, 1954.
It was built atop a hill, in a dominant position on the left bank (south) of the Catumbela River by Portuguese forces in the context of suppressing the uprisings of Catumbela and Dondo Grande (1846-1848).
