Lobito - Around fifteen teams will participate in an international deep-sea trolling tournament, to be held in the city of Lobito (Benguela)
In statements to ANGOP, António Rodrigues, member of the Commission for the southern zone of the Angolan Sport Fishing Federation, said that the tournament called Lobito Billfish Classic, will be held on the 22nd, 23rd and March 24.
For this tournament, the teams Lalala Fishing, Bravos da Baía, Monster Fish, Só Pra Contrariar and Vida Crazy, all from Lobito, and Tudo Fish, Akwalunga, Team Náutico and Molembeiros, coming from Luanda.
António Rodrigues said that the organization also expects the participation of teams from Benguela and Namibe.
"On the foreign side, so far, the England team "Azores Lures" is the only one that has confirmed its presence, but we also expect one from South Africa and another from Namibia", he revealed.
According to the member of the Commission from the south zone, the teams will leave the Clube Náutico do Ferrovia for the high seas, a distance of approximately forty miles.
"We haven't held tournaments of this scale since Covid-19. Our sea is fertile in billfish and we don't want to let this sport die", he emphasized.
Asked about sponsorships to carry out the event, he said it was "a headache". "We still don't have a big sponsor, but with a little we can do a lot. We count on all the people who love sport fishing", he said hopefully.
In 2015, the iron-port city of Lobito hosted the Deep Sea Trolling World Championship, where Angola became champion.
The teams from Angola, Germany, South Africa, Croatia, Spain, Austria, Italy, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Switzerland, Brazil and Mexico were present.
Trouning fishing consists of casting a natural bait (or sample) to a certain area and then retrieving it, waiting for a fish to attack it, once the bite is felt, You pull the rod hard to better sting the fish, and then try to get the fish out of the water as quickly as possible.

In river fishing it is also used to fish for mullet (fataça). For trolling fishing, it is best not to use a very heavy rod, as we spend most of our time with the rod in our hands.
