Balombo

Balombo is a city and municipality in the province of Benguela, in Angola.
On the way to Huambo, in the province of Benguela, Balombo is a fertile land with small corners ready to be discovered. Headquarters of the municipality with the same name, the old village of Sousa Lara was prohibited territory for decades. It was a dangerous place on the road between two large cities in the south.
With the end of the war, Balombo was reborn little by little. The municipality was created in 1954. It has 2,635 km² and around 30 thousand inhabitants.
It is limited to the North by the municipality of Cassongue, to the East by the municipality of Londuimbali, to the South by the municipalities of Ukuma, Tchinjenje and Ganda and to the West by the municipality of Bocoio.
The municipal festivals are on the 3rd of June, you can also get to know traditional dances such as Nhantcho, Njando, Litamba, Chipuete and Tchingunfo a little more closely.
The date is not the date of the founding of the municipality or the town, but it was made official, as the harvest festivals are celebrated around this time, called “otchicuya” by the locals. A tradition common to a people that was formed with the arrival of inhabitants from the kingdoms of Bailundo, Tchiyaka, Kaconda, Ngaguela and Ambós.
