“Pop-Up” exhibition gives visibility to artists from Benguela and Luanda - Arte D`Benguela
José Honório-ANGOP
Benguela – Twelve artists from the provinces of Benguela and Luanda have been participating, since this Friday, in the first edition of the collective exhibition called Pop-Up Galeria Tamar Golan - “Angola nas Telas da Solidariedade”, ANGOP learned.
In this interprovincial collection, on display at the National Archeology Museum, Benguela contains works by Abias Ukuma, Álvaro Sampaio, Carla Peairo, Dyra Santos, José Bento and Jó Delgas.
Luanda is represented by artists Azevedo Muhanguena, Adilson Vieira, Gilberto Kapitango, Jaime Alfredo, Isabel Landama and Zeca Lukombo.
This project, launched, first hand, in Benguela, under the aegis of the Fundação Arte e Cultura, in collaboration with the national airline – TAAG, and the National Union of Visual Artists (UNAP), appears to give visibility to visual artists.
Focused on promoting Angolan visual arts and supporting young emerging artists, especially outside Luanda, the Pop Up Galeria Tamar Golan exhibition is expected to be held quarterly in different provinces of the country.
Among the works on display, highlights include the “Sonas” (drawings in the sand practiced by the Tchokwe people) by Carla Peairo, the gingar of Tchingandji and the Tchikuza mask by Jó Delgas, the Dance of the Kaviúlas by Abias Ukuma, the surrealism of works by Dyra Santos or the realism of José Bento.
According to the organization, each artist, with their unique techniques and aesthetic approaches, bridges the gap between modern innovation and traditional roots, creating works that resonate with both historical depth and contemporary relevance.
Together, these artists exemplify the rich fabric of Angolan contemporary art, with their works a testament to the power of artistic expression to unite different eras and cultures.
By the way, the director of Galeria Tamar Golan, based in Luanda, Xavier Narciso, highlighted the partnership with TAAG and UNAP, with the aim of extending the exhibition to the country's 18 provinces and giving opportunities to emerging artists outside the capital .
Xavier Narciso announced that, after Benguela, the intention is to take the collection to the provinces of Huíla and Huambo.
In this way, he says the aim is to help, with the proceeds collected, children with a talent for the visual arts in reception centers, who can be integrated into exhibitions.
In turn, Álvaro Sampaio, a Benguela artist based in Luanda, said that this traveling and comprehensive exhibition highlights solidarity through Angolan visual arts.
To this end, he highlighted that the value of each work sold will benefit both new and anonymous visual arts talents and children at risk in different provinces.
Álvaro Sampaio said that, now, the challenge is to captivate and encourage new talents emerging in the visual arts.
The young man, who participates with two works, namely “Don't Kill My Dreams” and “Folclore”, thanks the organization for making this project comprehensive.
“As artists from Benguela, we are honored with the first edition and I feel motivated, as it is recognition of the hard work I have been doing”, he explains, visibly satisfied.
Hence Álvaro Sampaio called on the public to come not only to see the work of local and Luanda artists, but also to acquire it in order to help children with artistic potential. JH/CRB
