January 26th - WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION DAY - Ambiente e Boas Praticas

The 26th of January was established by the United Nations as World Environmental Education Day, in order to remind humanity that only through a new economic order in which policies aimed at maximizing economic production should be questioned, consider the implications for society and for the amount of resources available to improve quality of life.

In 1975, to respond to the recommendations of the Stockholm Conference, UNESCO promoted an International Meeting on Environmental Education in Belgrade (Serbia), creating the International Environmental Education Program (PIEA), which formulated the guiding principles, such as: Promoting the exchange of ideas, information and experiences in Environmental Education between nations and regions of the world; and encourage the development and coordination of research activities, for a better understanding of the objectives, contents and methods of Environmental Education.
At this meeting, the Belgrade Charter was written, which defined Environmental Education as a multidisciplinary theme, continuous and integrated with regional differences and focused on national interests. He also highlighted that education must go beyond the Formal Environmental Education System and reach the general public.
To be able to respond to new economic and environmental priorities, millions of people will have to adapt and assume their own individual ethics, and manifest in their overall performance, an attitude of commitment to improving the quality of the environment and life for all people.

The date coincides with the National Environment Week in Angola, which takes place from the 26th to the 31st of January (National Environment Day). Therefore, it is a good opportunity to program environmental education activities, which can be scheduled with the integration of children and young people who are on school break at this time.
