It is located 146 km from the city of Benguela and 200 km from the city of Huambo, formerly Nova Lisboa. It has 4,794 km² and about 252 thousand inhabitants. It limits the North with the municipality of Bocoio, the East with the municipality of Ganda, the South with the municipality of Chongoroi and the West with the municipality of Caybambo. It is bathed by a river that shares its name, the Cubal River. Around it, there are numerous fields for growing sisal, which give your land a very particular aroma. They played an important role in the region's economy during the 20th century, supplying large quantities of this raw material for export.
